The goal of the Eisenhower Interstate System was to connect major population centers in different states.Once the larger towns seem to have a reasonable enough population, build a small amount of medium in the center part of town.ĭecide when you're ready for freeways to happen.Find your favorite town(s) and grow it.Run the road right through the town's main street Once you've built lots of small towns (the more towns you have, the more fun it is), connect those towns with the road tool. You can fill them with farm fields, if you like, but I just left the countryside blank. Each large city map is 2.5 miles or 256 tiles. For large, flat areas, break the cities into half-mile-square blocks.Just enough to break-even financially (may be a wind power plant, and three blocks of buildings in a tiny grid). Open those cities and build small towns.Identify places settlers would want to live (coastlines, valleys).I've been working on a MASSIVE region (30 miles x 30 miles) for five years. TL DR What order do you build cities in? Rural->Suburb->CBD or the other way round? And do you layout the full inter-city transport network at the start or city by city as you go? If anyone has any tips, I'd really appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts on this! Oh and this is the region I'm going to be trying this on: The next part of this is whether you build a transport network between a few cities before doing any zoning or whether you just do it city by city but with an overall strategy for as you expand? However, I never know whether to start in a rural city or the suburbs or straight off the bat with the CBD? Do people find it best to build some surrounding suburb cities first to build up population and demand so that when you build a CBD, it shoots up quicker than if you'd started the CBD city first? So I like my regions to have a cbd and then surrounding suburbs which slowly turn into rural areas. I wanted to know if anyone had any tips on how they start a region and in what order they build their cities. ![]()
